Olivershaw is a specialist tax advisory practice founded in 2011 by Robin Oliver MNZM LLB MA and Mike Shaw CA. After distinguished careers in the public and private sectors, Robin and Mike identified a market need for expert tax advice that is both strategic and cost effective.
Robin and Mike are recognised experts in tax policy, tax economics and tax advice and are widely respected within New Zealand’s corporate community and government. Both have previously worked as senior partners at big four accounting firms and Robin served as Deputy Commissioner of Policy at IRD for 16 years.
Olivershaw has already established its reputation as advisors to the Corporate Taxpayer Group (New Zealand's largest tax lobby group outside the Chartered Accountants Australian and New Zealand, comprising of 30 of New Zealand’s largest companies), the Financial Services Council, local bodies, NZX listed corporates, high wealth individuals and highly innovative start up organisations.
Robin Oliver is recognised in New Zealand, and world-wide, as an expert in tax economics and tax policy. Before founding OliverShaw, Robin was Deputy Commissioner of Policy at Inland Revenue and has also worked for the New Zealand Treasury and as a private sector tax advisor.
Robin is a member of the International Fiscal Association. He was previously on the United Nations Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters and represented New Zealand on the OECD’ Committee on Fiscal Affairs.
Robin was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2009 Queen’s Birthday Honours. He has an MA first class honour in Political Studies and an LLB from the University of Auckland
Mike Shaw is an expert in tax and tax policy advice. He has extensive experience with large corporates, high wealth individuals and government officials.
Mike was previously a senior tax partner at Deloitte, where he specialised in strategic tax advice and tax policy and was a primary adviser to the Corporate Taxpayer Group. While at Deloitte, he was seconded to the office of the Minister of Revenue for several years to provide independent advice on tax policy proposed by the Inland Revenue and Treasury.
Mike is currently on the Tax Advisory Group of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. He was previously appointed to the New Zealand Government's Tax Working Group in 2009 and continues to have strong links with tax policy officials at the Inland Revenue and Treasury.
